# I just passed my real estate exam, what do I need to join?

> General Referral is a great option for new agents looking for an introduction to the business and a low cost alternative to hanging their license at a full service broker.

Once you've completed your pre-licensure coursework, New Jersey requires that you pass the state licensing exam and find a broker sponsor within one year of your class completion. GR can be your sponsor, even with a tight deadline.

  Additional steps you will need to take include uploading the following from your account after you've signed up:

  1. Copy of U.S. government issued photo ID (state or federal)
  2. Copy of your exam pass notice

  You'll find the upload tool on the signup success page once you create your account, and afterwards right on your [member dashboard](https://app.generalreferral.com/dashboard) until your documents are approved — see [Requirements After Passing Your Exam](/knowledge-base/getting-started/requirements-after-exam) for details.

After sign up, ensure your [fingerprints](https://www.state.nj.us/dobi/division_rec/licensing/fingerprint.html) are complete. General Referral does not need confirmation of your fingerprint status.
